Job Overview

We are seeking to appoint a bright and proactive colleague to act as an academic mentor to a Key Stage 4 pupil. The role will involve one to one classroom support and when needed emotional health regulation. The successful candidate to be able to offer core subject one to one intervention outside the classroom when required. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, flexible and have experience of working with children. They will be confident, possess good interpersonal skills and have the ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders, including teaching staff, students and parents. This role is term time only. Job Description

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Academic Support Provide daily/regular one-to-one support to the student in core subjects, with a particular focus on GCSE preparation and catch-up work. Assist with homework, organisation, and development of effective study habits. Break down tasks into manageable steps and adapt support to meet the student's learning needs. Reinforce key learning from lessons and help fill knowledge gaps. Wellbeing and Emotional Health Build a positive and trusting mentoring relationship with the student. Offer encouragement, strategies, and a listening ear to support emotional resilience, self esteem, and confidence. Help the student to manage stress, workload, and the pressures of school and exams. Act as a consistent role model and advocate for the student. Family and School Liaison Provide regular feedback to parents/carers on progress, strengths, and next steps. Work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the SENCo to ensure the student's needs are understood and supported. Contribute to review meetings and support plans for the student. General Duties Keep accurate records of sessions, progress, and wellbeing concerns. Follow safeguarding and confidentiality procedures at all times. Support the ethos and values of the school in all aspects of the role. Personal qualities Empathetic and approachable, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people. Positive role model with patience, resilience, and emotional intelligence. Motivated, reliable, and proactive in helping a student achieve their potential. Ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations. Support for the School Be aware of and comply with school policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. Be aware of and support difference to help ensure everyone has equal access to the services of the school and feels valued, respecting their social, cultural, linguistic, religious and ethnic background. Contribute to the school ethos, aims and development/improvement plan. Work as part of a team, appreciating and supporting the role of other people in the team. Attend and participate in meetings as required. Undertake personal development through training and other learning activities, including performance management as required. Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Contract length: 24 months

Pay: £23,416.00 per year
