We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Special School Nursing Team within the borough of Barnet. We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Special School Nurse (Band 6) who is looking to develop their skills in the largest community healthcare trust in London.

The Special School Nursing Team are looking for a caring individual to work within a team supporting children and young people from 4-19 years who have a range of learning disabilities and complex health needs. The nursing team works closely with education and other agencies to ensure the children achieve their full potential in school.

You will be an experienced registered nurse, trained in children's nursing, adult nursing or learning disability nursing, and have up to date clinical nursing skills to care for children with complex health needs such as epilepsy, enteral feeding, and administration of medications. You will have excellent communication skills, be flexible to the needs of the children and the service and have good organisational skills. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of safeguarding and be confident in delivering training to school staff and carers.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Special School Nursing Team taking overall responsibility for the assessment, provision, management and evaluation of evidenced based nursing care to children in the Special Schools.

To work as part of the Special School Nursing team, to provide day to day management of the care worker staff, equipment and clinical resources in the schools, in line with professional standards and quality of care.

To take responsibility for training relevant support staff and care worker staff, in line with agreed competency based training packages.

To provide clinical input to the school management boards for school-wide issues.

Person Specification


Education/Qualification

* RSCN or RN(Child) or LD
* Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
* Evidence of post registration education and training
* School Nursing or Community Nursing /Specialist Practitioner Qualification


Experience

* Acute paediatric experience, caring for children with complex health needs
* Experience of delivering teaching/training
* Experience of working with students
* Experience of working in a multi-professional team to safeguard children
* Experience of working within a Special Needs School
* Experience of Health Promotion/Public Health
* Experience of safeguarding children with special needs
* Experience of immunisation
* Experience of managing staff
* Experience of working as a School Nurse or a Children's Community Nurse


Skills and Knowledge

* High standard of clinical expertise
* Leadership skills and the ability to motivate staff
* Knowledge of the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct
* Knowledge of Personal Development Planning
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and its implementations
* Knowledge of the purpose and value of Clinical Supervision and support of staff
* Understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
* Knowledge of political issues within the profession and NHS

£44,485 to £52,521 a yearper annum inclusive of HCAS
