Overview
We are looking for 2 enthusiastic, visionary Senior Biomedical Scientists with extensive Microbiology experience to join our team as Senior Biomedical Scientist (Band 7). These are 2 full-time, substantive vacancies. Suitable candidates must be HCPC registered and hold a Level 7 qualification in a relevant subject. This role requires full participation in the 7-day working and on-call rotas.
About the Microbiology service
The Microbiology service is centralized on one site at the William Harvey Hospital and provides a wide range of bacteriology, virology, molecular, parasitology and mycology diagnostic tests for all acute sites and community services, totalling approximately 600,000+ samples per year. We are ISO 15189 accredited and recognised by IBMS and the National School for Healthcare Science for training. We are a dynamic, diverse team currently training Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Clinical Scientists, Senior and Consultant clinical scientists, Senior Clinical Fellows and apprentices at several levels. We promote inclusivity, support and an open, friendly culture and invest in staff development and quality improvement plans.
Main duties
KMPN: You will have the opportunity to grow your career in KMPN. We are developing a network academy, a platform for network education and training from apprenticeships to advanced clinical and scientific qualifications with a single faculty making best use of talented educators and trainers. You will not be expected to work at sites outside of EKHUFT, but there will be opportunities for collaborative working within the network.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist
* Master level (Level 7) qualification in a relevant subject (e.g., MSc, IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma, IBMS Fellowship examination, or 60 credits in postgraduate qualifications)
Desirable criteria
* Clinical Microbiology Masters suitable for HSST
* Suitability for Clinical Scientist HCPC registration
* Relevant training qualifications (e.g., Postgraduate Certificate, IBMS extended practice certificate, Biomed online learning modules)
Skills and experience
Essential criteria
* Extensive experience in an ISO-accredited laboratory
* Supervisory skills and ability to train staff
* Specialist knowledge across Microbiology and Virology, molecular techniques, with sound theoretical grounding
* Analytical and technical capability to perform microbiology work
* Ability to communicate technical information to health professionals via telephone and email
* Evidence of continuous professional development
* Experience with molecular techniques
* Highly developed IT skills (Word, Excel, presentation) and LIMS familiarity

* Teaching and training skills for staff at varying levels
