Care Assistant for a young person F/T @ £12.71/hr in Stockton-on-tees
Location: Community-based
Hours: 3 × 30-minute drop-in visits per week (with flexibility for additional support if required)
Preferred days: Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Preferred times: Late morning to early afternoon (sleep routine can fluctuate)
About the Role
We are looking for a supportive, down-to‑earth individual to work alongside a young adult, helping him build and maintain independence in everyday life. This is not a traditional “care” role — it’s about being a steady, consistent presence who offers gentle, practical support without taking over. Support visits are short, relaxed check‑ins focused on keeping on top of life admin, maintaining daily routines, attending health appointments, and light support with keeping his living space organised. The emphasis is on collaboration, encouragement, and shared momentum rather than direction or instruction.
The Kind of Person We’re Looking For
* Work alongside someone as an equal
* Offer gentle, non-directive support
* Encourage without pressuring
* Build rapport through natural conversation and shared interests
Shared interests would be a real bonus, particularly:
* Cars or aviation
* Football
* Politics
* Gaming
* Geography
* Or simply grabbing a Starbucks and having a chat
A young male support worker may be a good fit due to relatability, but we welcome applicants of any background. The most important things are your attitude, interpersonal style, and ability to connect naturally.
Experience and Training
* A formal understanding of autism is ideal
* Informal experience also welcomed — for example, supporting a family member or someone you know who is autistic
* What matters most is empathy, patience, and an ability to work in a low‑key, respectful way
About the Person You’ll Be Supporting
You’ll be working with a young adult who is warm, friendly, and talkative, and who enjoys getting to know new people through conversation about his interests. He does best with gentle support that helps him maintain a steady baseline in daily life without feeling managed. While he values freedom and independence, during more difficult weeks he can lose momentum, experience low mood, irregular sleep, or forget tasks. Your role is to be a consistent, reassuring presence — someone who helps him stay on track, reconnect with routines, and keep moving forward while respecting his autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
* Support him to remain independent and maintain daily routines
* Assist with keeping on top of life administration and appointments
* Provide gentle encouragement and help keep his living space organised
* Be a steady, consistent presence to help build momentum and keep him motivated
