Ambulance Care Assistant – EMED Group
Join the EMED Group as an Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) based in Oxford. The training start date is Monday 26th January and you must be available to start on this date.
An ACA supports elderly, sick and vulnerable service users by transporting them to and from medical appointments and healthcare facilities. Work can be done as part of a two‑person crew or solo, so a full UK driving licence and good physical fitness are essential.
This permanent, full‑time role includes weekends and shift variations from 0500 to 0100.
Responsibilities
* Transporting service users to and from appointments and facilities.
* Assisting with ‘end‑of‑life’ passenger transport with empathy.
* Building rapport and communicating with patients and relatives.
* Lifting, securing and supporting passengers in and out of the ambulance.
* Handing over patients to appropriate staff or families at arrival.
* Transferring patients between beds, stretchers, chairs, and during flights.
* Managing challenging behaviour or mental health issues.
* Maintaining ambulance safety, cleanliness and tidiness.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Committed to patient care.
* Effective communication, especially in emotional circumstances.
* Calm, considerate driver with no more than three penalty points on licence.
* Team‑working and collaborative orientation.
* Physically fit for patient handling and moving.
* Valid UK manual driving licence (less than 6 points).
* Pass an Enhanced DBS check (company funded).
* Flexible shift availability.
* Familiarity with local and surrounding areas.
