About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in Middleton on a maternity cover basis from April 2026 to February 2027. This role will involve teaching Key Stage 1 pupils with a range of complex needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering personalised, engaging, and supportive learning experiences that meet the individual needs of our pupils.

This school specialises in supporting pupils with complex special educational needs. Many of the learners experience high levels of social communication needs and may have diagnoses including autism, ADHD, sensory processing difficulties, and speech and language disorders.

Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver adapted, inclusive lessons for KS1 pupils with complex SEND.
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and support staff to implement individual learning and communication strategies.
* Use a range of communication approaches and sensory strategies to support engagement and learning.
* Monitor progress and contribute to EHCP reviews and personalised learning plans.
* Create a safe, calm, and positive classroom environment that supports pupils’ emotional and sensory needs.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
* Experience working with pupils with ASD, SLD, or complex SEND (desirable).
* Strong understanding of autism-friendly teaching approaches and communication strategies.
* The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
* Patience, creativity, and a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs.
