Overview
We are looking for a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner to join the clinical team at our Dudley unit, working 27 hours per week on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. As a Nurse or Midwife Practitioner you will provide high quality clinical care to our clients across a range of BPAS reproductive healthcare services including termination of pregnancy, STI testing and treatment, contraception, and vasectomy. You will be involved in all stages of the client pathway from consultation through to treatment and will work in all areas of the unit including theatre and recovery. This role will involve providing treatment and clinical information to clients both in person and over the phone. You will work in accordance with NMC guidelines for Professional Practice and the wider regulatory frameworks of the Abortion Act 1967 and Health & Social Care Act, as well as BPAS clinical policies and procedures. Ensure that the client understands her options in relation to the pregnancy and, if choosing termination, meets the ground of the Abortion Act. Provide information on STI testing, undertake tests and provide results and also discuss, inform and confirm the clientuture choice of contraception. Carefully check for and implement any procedure indicated on client case notes, including administering medication for Medical Abortion procedures or cervical preparation. Carry out post-treatment check-ups by assessing the physical condition of the client and discussing any concerns. Complete relevant paperwork and, in the event of post-treatment problems, make arrangements with the clinic or refer to an NHS agency if necessary. To care for and support clients undergoing surgical treatments, which could include general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.
Responsibilities
• Provide high quality clinical care across BPAS reproductive health services (termination of pregnancy, STI testing and treatment, contraception, vasectomy).
• Assess and manage client pathways from consultation to treatment, including theatre and recovery areas.
• Deliver information to clients in person and by phone; ensure understanding of options and regulatory requirements.
• Administer medications for Medical Abortion and cervical preparation as indicated; perform post-treatment check-ups and address concerns.
• Complete necessary paperwork and coordinate referrals or NHS arrangements if post-treatment problems occur.
• Provide care for clients undergoing surgical treatments, including with general anaesthetic, conscious sedation or local anaesthetic.
Qualifications
• Registered Adult Nurse (NMC Level 1) or Midwife with active NMC registration and PIN.
• Clinical practice experience of at least 12 months and a keen interest in sexual and reproductive health.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and Fraser/Gillick competencies.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills with compassionate and empathetic client care.
• Proficiency with IT and Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Microsoft Teams).
• Administrative competence with attention to detail; gynecological nursing experience or relevant specialty (e.g., sexual health, contraception); venepuncture/cannulation skills.
