Within the Development Directorate, the Planning and Building Control division provides essential support to residents, businesses, and stakeholders. You will be part of a professional and customer-focused Planning Department committed to service excellence, continuous improvement, and maintaining strong corporate values. Your new role As Business Support Officer, you will provide a wide range of professional, technical and administrative support services to the Planning Department. You will act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring efficient handling of enquiries and assisting officers with the smooth delivery of Planning responsibilities will include: Delivering a comprehensive Business Support service across all Planning functions. Responding to telephone, email and in-person enquiries, offering procedural advice or appropriate signposting. Issuing standard correspondence and maintaining accurate records on the Planning Portal and other systems. Preparing marketing materials and assisting with website updates. Operating and maintaining manual and computerised information systems, including data input, extraction and reporting. Processing Property Certificate requests and Planning Appeals Commission documentation. Organising and attending meetings, taking minutes, and completing follow-up actions. Supporting officers with reports, registers, returns, and filing systems. Managing incoming payments, coding purchase orders, monitoring inventories and undertaking stock checks. Contributing to business continuity by providing cover across Planning functions, including reception when required. Adhering to council policies, performance standards, and health and safety requirements. What you'll need to succeed You will need to demonstrate: 5 GCSEs including Maths and English (Grade C or above) or equivalent. At least one year's relevant Business Support experience in an office environment, including: Effective use of computerised information management systems. Delivering frontline customer service as part of a team. Managing large volumes of work and prioritising competing demands. A qualification in word processing/database skills, or one year's experience using Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Excel) if no formal qualification is held. Alternatively, candidates without the required GCSEs may be considered with three years' relevant experience meeting the above criteria. Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
