We're looking for a Product Director to join our team at OakNorth to initially lead our Business Banking product line during a period of maternity leave cover and then transition to other areas of the business. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of banking for mid-sized businesses and drive meaningful impact at scale.
As a Product Director, you'll work closely with cross-functional teams to build innovative, customer-centric solutions for OakNorth customers. You'll oversee a team of Product Managers and empower them to deliver outstanding experiences that differentiate us in the market and drive business growth.
You will be a senior member of the Product team with true ownership from strategy to delivery. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, leads with a strong commercial mindset, and inspires teams to build high-quality digital products.
The Role
o Provide strategic leadership across the product, shaping the long-term vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with OakNorth's mission and growth objectives.
o Lead, inspire, and develop a team of high-performing Product Managers, instilling a culture of customer-centricity, innovation, and outcome-driven thinking.
o Coach and empower product teams to take ownership of their domains while maintaining oversight on performance, quality, and alignment.
o Act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to senior leadership across the business-translating market insights, user needs, and data into clear product direction.
o Ensure product metrics are aligned with company-wide Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that connect product impact to commercial success and customer value.
o Navigate complexity and ambiguity with confidence, guiding teams to make smart trade-offs, prioritise ruthlessly, and stay aligned on the most critical outcomes.
o Foster strong cross-functional partnerships with Engineering, Design, Marketing, Commercial, Operations, and other business areas to ensure cohesive, scalable product delivery.
We Would Love You To
o Have 7+ years of experience in product management, including 4+ years leading teams, ideally in fintech or another complex business domain.
o Be commercially-minded and outward-facing, while also focused on delivering high-quality execution.
o Demonstrate experience shipping successful, user-centric digital products in fast-paced and evolving markets.
o Have a data-driven mindset, with a clear approach to evaluating product performance and success metrics.
o Bring hands-on experience working in ambiguity and leading multiple squads or complex domains.
o Understand the value of written communication-articulating complex ideas clearly and concisely.
o Have strong stakeholder management and alignment skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
o Be detail-oriented and accountable for delivery end-to-end.
o Thrive in a collaborative environment where diverse opinions are welcomed and respected.
How we expect you to behave
o We embrace difference and know that when we can be ourselves at work, we are happier, more motivated and creative. We want to be able to bring our whole selves to work, have our own perspectives and know that we belong. As such, through your behaviours at work, we expect you to reflect and actively sustain a healthy engineering environment that looks like this:
o A wide range of voices heard to the benefit of all
o Teams that are clearly happy, engaged, and laugh together
o Perceivable safety to have an opinion or ask a question
o No egos - people listen to and learn from others at all levels, with strong opinions held loosely
What makes working here better
o This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the team, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in the office to foster hands-on collaboration and innovation.
o Work-life balance - 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays) each year, and enhanced family leave allowances.
o Competitive salary & equity - We want people to have a serious stake in the business.
o Good kit - Your choice of the best laptop, running macOS.
o Team socials - The opportunity to get to know each other outside of work.
o Company socials - A chance to catch up and meet new colleagues weekly over informal office breakfasts and dinners on OakNorth - or at our free barista bar every day.
o Commuter support - We offer the cycle to work and EV scheme
