Senior Healthcare Support Worker – Adult Theatres
Job Summary: We are looking for enthusiastic, compassionate, and hard‑working individuals who hold a Level 3 (or Level 2 functional skills) qualification, have prior hospital healthcare experience, and are flexible across all shift patterns.
Main Duties:
* Provide clinical and therapeutic care within protocols, using your judgement as appropriate.
* Perform key duties independently: infection control, theatre preparation and cleaning, equipment checks, instrument handling, patient transfers.
* Support patient care (including positioning for surgery), follow care plans, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively.
* Adhere to Trust safety and infection‑control policies.
* Expect exposure to bodily fluids and distressed patients.
Responsibilities:
* Work 37.5 hours per week (full‑time) and be on your feet for long periods.
* Adapt quickly to changing clinical demands and manage time effectively.
* Work as a member of a team, prioritise workload and demonstrate a caring approach to patients and relatives.
* Provide care in a healthcare or social setting, using the Trust’s policies, procedures and safety standards.
* Complete documentation accurately and maintain confidentiality.
Essential Qualifications and Training:
* Level 3 (SCQF – 6) – City & Guilds, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent experience.
* Level 2 functional skills in English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
* Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (or equivalent) – the Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker.
Desirable Qualifications:
* Experience working in a theatre environment.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
* Effective written and verbal communication.
* Accurate documentation and basic IT skills (Word, Email).
* Awareness of healthcare policies and procedures.
* Commitment to high‑quality patient care and ability to work with minimal supervision.
* Willingness to undertake training within given time frames.
* Flexible and adaptable to change, able to work a range of shifts and move across wards or units as clinical need requires.
* Calm, caring attitude towards patients.
* Enthusiastic and committed to working within the healthcare setting.
* Physical stamina to meet the role’s demands.
Employment Details:
* Payment: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum (Band 3)
* Salary Scheme: Agenda for Change
* Contract: Permanent
