About the role
* Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Acting as the Subject Matter Expert for health and safety, environmental risk, and safety culture at Smiths News, including all road transport and operational yard safety at company and third-party locations.
* Owning company health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place and managed effectively.
* Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs to promote positive behaviors and foster a just safety culture.
* Building positive relationships and maintaining dialogue with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance, such as HSE, DVSA, local authorities, and trade bodies.
* Ensuring all incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated by trained colleagues, with escalation as appropriate, and liaising with external stakeholders like emergency services and media.

About you
* At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
* Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO integrated systems
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental risk management qualifications
* Extensive accident investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
* A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
