We are seeking an experienced Control Panel Technician/Wire Person to join our dynamic engineering workshop team. This role focuses on providing bespoke quotations for new and existing control panels, requiring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills. Site visits to assess legacy projects, upgrades, and new installations will be a key part of this role. The ideal candidate will combine technical knowledge with a customer-oriented approach to deliver tailored proposals that reflect March's commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Interpret Electrical Diagrams: Read and interpret electrical schematic diagrams accurately.
2. Plan & Populate Panel Backplates: Plan backplate layouts, measure, cut, and fix DIN rail/trunking, and populate with components.
3. Control Panel Wiring: Ensure correct cable crimps/ferrules are fitted and all cables are properly marked with identification.
4. Mains Cabling: Install mains power cables, ensuring correct sizing and identification of cables and lugs.
5. Power Cabling: Fit power cables to components and tighten to specified torque settings.
6. Earthing: Install earth cables throughout the enclosure, ensuring all removable covers are connected to the earth bar.
7. Heat Shrinking: Produce heat-shrink wire markers and component labels using dedicated printing machines.
8. Door Assembly: Drill, tap, and fix engraved labels to doors; punch and cut holes for lamps, switches, and other devices.
9. Mentoring: Assist in training and developing apprentice technicians through coaching.
10. Quality: Comply with Quality Assurance Procedures relevant to control panel manufacture.
11. Documentation: Identify errors and document mark-ups to schematics and design information.
12. Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve control panel build processes, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
13. Team Coordination: Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure project alignment.
Skills and Experience:
1. Experience: Previous panel wiring/build experience essential; LV Switchgear, motor control principles, and control panel design experience desirable.
2. Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with control panel design and interpreting electrical drawings and instructions.
3. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, team-working, and effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and in teams.
4. Other Skills: Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems; safety-related skills are advantageous.
Qualifications:
* Proven experience in a similar role.
* Relevant apprenticeship, time served, or qualifications (C&G, BTEC, or equivalent).
