Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled and versatile Cloud Engineer to join our Infrastructure and Environment Support Team. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day operational support, configuration, and optimisation across AWS, Azure, OpenShift platforms, both Linux and Windows operating systems middleware and associated technologies. You will play a key role in maintaining the performance, availability, and security of hybrid and multi-cloud, highly secure and highly available services that underpin mission critical customer services for prestigious and high profile customers. Extensive support could be provided for the right candidate who must be able to demonstrate extensive complementary knowledge and fundamental knowledge of the technologies, competencies highlighted in this opportunity. Key Responsibilities Manage and support highly secure cloud infrastructure and platform services across AWS, Azure, and OpenShift environments. Provide operational support for Linux and Windows Server environments in cloud and highly secure solutions. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents and service requests related to cloud infrastructure and hosted applications and associated databases (SQL, IBM DB2, Oracle) Maintain and improve system reliability, availability, capacity and performance through proactive monitoring and automation. Support senior architects in the development of operational practices. Capacity, Availability and Service Continuity management strategies. Support containerised environments, including OpenShift clusters and Kubernetes workloads. Undertake and lead on patching strategies, backup, and recovery approaches for infrastructure and virtual environments. Including Service Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams to support DevOps practices and CI/CD development and release cycles Some office based work required in our Birmingham City Center office will be required (around a hybrid model) Contribute to documentation, knowledge transfer, and continuous improvement initiatives. Required Skills & Experience 3–5 years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering or systems administration. Hands-on experience with AWS and Azure IaaS/PaaS services (e.g., EC2, S3, VPC, Azure VMs, Azure Networking, IAM). Experience supporting OpenShift/Kubernetes clusters and containerised applications. Strong administration skills in Linux and Windows Server environments. Proficiency with scripting/automation (e.g. PowerShell, Python or others). Working knowledge of HA architectures, networking, DNS, firewall rules, load balancing, and storage services in cloud environments. Experience with system monitoring and logging tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix ELK stack, CloudWatch). Understanding of security best practices and identity management in hybrid cloud environments. Desirable Qualifications Relevant certifications such as: AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or Solutions Architect – Associate Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration Experience with hybrid cloud setups or government/MoD secure environments. Familiarity with ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Helix Jira Service Management), and common ITIL based service management process and practices Exposure to backup/recovery tooling (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, Azure Backup).
