Social Media Lead – National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC)

GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber and security agency with a mission to keep the UK safe. This role is part of the NCSC, GCHQ’s lead authority on cyber security, and involves working closely with the Head of Media and Social Media to refresh and strengthen the organisation’s social media strategy.


Key Responsibilities

* Manage day‑to‑day operation of NCSC social media channels.
* Create engaging, original multimedia content (copy, graphics, video).
* Collaborate with internal teams, government and international counterparts to produce high‑impact output.
* Provide consultancy on social media best practice and content strategy.
* Analyse performance using reporting tools, identify improvement opportunities and deliver regular KPI reports.


Qualifications & Experience

* Strong background in social media or content creation, with decision‑making and collaboration skills.
* Experience in journalism, public relations or government communications is advantageous.
* Organised, able to manage multiple projects to tight deadlines.
* Excellent writing – able to translate technical detail into engaging copy.
* Attention to detail, composure under pressure and a strong interest in current news and emerging trends.

Salary & Benefits

Starting salary £45,841 (including a £2,758 concessionary payment). London roles receive an additional £6,250 London allowance.

* 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years, plus 10.5 public/privilege holidays.

Location & Working Arrangements

Positions are based in Cheltenham, London or Manchester. Applicants must live within commutable distance of a site and will not receive relocation costs.
