Support and Safeguarding Service - Empowering Families, Protecting Futures
Our North team, based in Chippenham, invites qualified social workers to embark on a rewarding journey where you’ll make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families.
As a social worker you will hold primary case responsibility for children in need, protection and looked‑after children. You will operate within council policy, keep up‑to‑date with social work methods, practice developments and legislation, including the Children Act 2004, and be responsible for the day‑to‑day interpretation of statutory duties and departmental policy.
Allocated cases by the Team Manager, you will complete timely assessments of needs and risks, consider the views of children and families, conduct S47 enquiries and single assessments in settings such as homes, schools and hospitals, and take appropriate action to minimise risk in line with child protection procedures.
You will develop and implement plans with families, convene core group meetings, prepare reports for conferences, reviews, legal meetings and court hearings, and work collaboratively with Keyworkers, Senior Keyworkers and Local Partnership Advisors to achieve shared family goals.
Other responsibilities include maintaining accurate electronic records, meeting team and departmental performance targets, engaging in supervision and professional development, and being available occasionally outside normal hours (no more than 10% of contracted hours).
We prioritise flexibility, offering work at various locations and hotdesking opportunities, a 9‑day fortnight, compressed hours, full or part‑time positions and job shares. A full driving licence and access to a car are essential for the rural nature of Wiltshire.
