Position Description
Position Summary
The Chemistry Tutor will provide exclusive 1:1 or small group tutoring for college-level general, organic, or physical chemistry courses, assisting students with core concepts, problem-solving strategies, and exam preparation. Qualified candidates must have earned an A in the specific chemistry course they wish to tutor and obtain a faculty recommendation, demonstrating both subject mastery and teaching potential. The ideal tutor will possess exceptional communication skills to clearly explain complex chemical principles while adapting to individual student needs in personalized learning sessions.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position
* Demonstrated academic excellence with an A grade in the specific chemistry course to be tutored
* Strong faculty endorsement from the course professor verifying both subject mastery and teaching aptitude

Primary Duties
Academic Support:
* Explain complex chemistry concepts (e.g., organic reactions, thermodynamics, quantum mechanics) in accessible terms.
* Guide students through problem-solving strategies for coursework, assignments, and exams.
* Provide tailored support for lab reports, including data analysis, error calculations, and scientific writing.
Skill Development:
* Teach effective study techniques and exam preparation methods.
* Foster critical thinking by encouraging students to articulate their reasoning.
* Recommend supplemental resources (practice problems, simulations, or textbooks) to reinforce learning.
Progress & Communication:
* Track student performance and adapt teaching approaches to address gaps.
* Maintain open communication with students to identify challenges and goals.
* Uphold academic integrity by promoting independent problem-solving (no direct answers).
* Demonstrate consistent reliability through regular attendance and punctuality for all scheduled sessions
Secondary Duties
* Maintain prompt and professional communication with the director through email and phone correspondence
* Fulfill additional duties as assigned to support program operations and student success
