Lead Nurse Band 8A – 10 Month Secondment Opportunity (AMU/HMU, SDEC, RSU)
We are pleased to offer a 10‑month secondment for a Lead Nurse to join our senior nursing team across the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Hospital Medical Unit (HMU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) and Respiratory/Respiratory Support Unit (RSU). The successful candidate will provide visible leadership and professional accountability for the nursing teams, working alongside two other lead nurses.
Job Overview
The role offers the opportunity to work closely with a multidisciplinary team and be supported by the Matron and other lead nurses. Key responsibilities include day‑to‑day operations, patient flow management, clinical governance, staff management and budget oversight.
Responsibilities
* Lead and support nursing teams across AMU, HMU, SDEC and RSU units.
* Ensure high standards of patient care and uphold clinical governance.
* Manage staff, workload and team development.
* Oversee budget and resource allocation.
* Implement and evaluate improvements in clinical practice.
* Support multidisciplinary working and liaise with other departments.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
* Professionally qualified and clinically credible with a post‑registration qualification.
* Minimum first‑degree education.
* Experience in acute medicine, particularly caring for patients with complex respiratory conditions requiring non‑invasive ventilation.
* Demonstrated evidence of leadership, management and specialty knowledge.
* Critical care course completed.
Desirable
* Post‑graduate or further study qualification.
* Experience in managing finance, workforce and quality in a clinical environment.
* Experience of partnership working and implementing effective change.
* Knowledge of audit, data processes and recent clinical developments.
