Overview
The Editing Media Manager is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of the GMB media management operation, including shifts editing for the programme. The postholder will ensure the delivery of high-quality news and programme content to tight deadlines, manage media, perform newsroom and desktop editing, ingest and protect content, and follow established media deletion workflows and protocols. They will assign editing tasks in consultation with the programme editor, provide technical solutions to production teams, and communicate clearly with the gallery in the lead-up to and during live transmissions. The role involves editing pictures and sound to create polished, high-impact reports and films, applying visual, graphic, and audio effects as required, quality-checking packages for PSE, video, and audio errors, and resolving issues to ensure clean transmission. The postholder may be expected to train journalists and picture editors in tools such as Avid MCCUX, Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Woody ingest systems. The position requires shift working, including regular night work, with flexibility to meet the demands of a fast-paced news environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Communicate effectively with the studio and newsroom production teams
* Provide solutions to problems related to edited packages leading up to and during transmission
* Operate ITN’s digital editing system including AVID Media Composer and Premiere Pro to a high standard, and resolve some technical issues when necessary
* Understand all aspects of the digital workflow in the ITV News/GMB production model
* Edit high-quality, creative reports and packages
* Work proactively to prepare for packages or other edits by identifying relevant material from any source
* Edit breaking-news packages with little or no supervision
* Edit long-form films either on the day or over a period, as required
* Understand compliance issues and flag these up when necessary
* Work closely and collaborate with Correspondents, Producers and Content Editors over content, structure and deadline of edits
* Communicate clearly with journalists, graphics and studio production staff
* Work effectively with other parts of the graphic design team, studio crew, ITVX, ITV News Digital and Longform teams across GMB, ITV National and ITV London News
* Fulfil all aspects of media management in the AVID system, including ingest of multi-format video, audio and graphics, transmission, deletion of content if required
* Quality check and resolve complete edits for PSE, video and audio discrepancies
* Liaise with input, MCR/NOC, output staff and other ITN departments
* Work closely with IT and Support staff to identify and resolve problems affecting servers and other editing equipment
* Support production teams in their use of the digital editing systems
* Provide training on these systems as directed
* Support or deputise for the Manager of Media Managers for short periods as required
Key Requirements
* Understand the technical aspects and workflows of ITN Postproduction systems within the ITV & GMB Newsrooms
* High level of editing and communication skills
* Ability to use digital editing equipment in a creative and innovative way
* Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure
* Good organisational and time management skills
* Ability to prioritise effectively
* A high level of computer literacy
* Clear understanding of the workflows required for multimedia news production in a digital newsroom
* Ability to train staff to edit using Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro
* Knowledge of iNews, Wolftech and other newsroom computer systems
* Ability to create template graphics and insert them into an edit
* Ability to use the functionality of AVID and Adobe Premiere Pro to create visual effects and graphics
* Willingness and ability to work on any ITN service or channel as required
