Overview
Assistant Manager, Corporate Tax – provides professional support to the Corporate Tax department, managing client portfolios and overseeing tax compliance, advisory, and planning matters for a broad range of clients including OMBs, listed companies, multinational groups, and private equity‑backed businesses.
Responsibilities
* Accept responsibility for a portfolio of clients and prioritise work as necessary.
* Act as the primary contact for most clients throughout the tax cycle, ensuring that tax matters are raised proactively and communicated effectively.
* Manage client and third‑party relationships from initial setup meetings, liaising with other advisors, and handling ongoing service issues on the allocated portfolio.
* Prepare tax computations and returns, calculate tax liabilities, and advise clients accordingly.
* Prepare deferred tax calculations, tax reconciliations, and tax disclosures for inclusion within statutory accounts.
* Review the preparation of work by peers and junior team members.
* Consider tax planning opportunities and identify ways to increase the client base and develop cross‑departmental working opportunities.
* Build relationships and collaborate closely with other departments such as audit and business solutions to deliver client work.
* Respond to client queries efficiently and in a timely manner.
* Manage within an agreed fee, set deadlines, and assist with monthly client billing.
* Support senior managers, directors, and partners in advisory matters.
* Carry out ad hoc technical research tasks as required.
Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., CTA, ACA or equivalent) and excellent working knowledge and experience of corporate tax compliance, advisory, and planning projects.
* Experience managing a client portfolio with proven soft skills: monitoring deadlines, building effective client relationships, exemplary written and verbal communication, high motivation, and strong organisational and multi‑tasking abilities.
* Confidence in dealing with day‑to‑day compliance affairs.
* Competence in drafting tax disclosures for statutory accounts.
* A flair for understanding advisory work and anticipating client needs before they arise.
* Good business awareness and interest in business development and promoting initiatives.
* Experience reviewing the work of junior staff and providing training, guidance, and support.
* Experience with relevant tax software (e.g., Alphatax) is useful but not essential as training will be provided.
