Job overview

To work as part of the Sutton Health and Care Reablement Unit Team to provide an inpatient rehabilitation service for service users within South West London. Post holders will be working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team including nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, rehabilitation assistants, and administrators, as well as the voluntary sector. The post holder will be primarily based on the SHC reablement unit with some community visits in order to provide a rehabilitation over a 7 day period.

There is the potential for this to be a rotational post with St Helier Acute Occupational Therapy team in the future.

Main duties of the job

Occupational Therapist have a key role within both supported discharge and prevention of admission to support individuals to optimise their independence and wellbeing.

To deliver Occupational Therapy services within the community services as well as the possibility for rotations within the acute hospital.

To provide a comprehensive and co-ordinated range of Occupational Therapy and preventative services which maintain or improve people’s health, independence and quality of life.

To consolidate and further develop skills and knowledge learned through the Occupational Therapy course.

To assess and implement treatment programmes as an autonomous practitioner, maintaining associated clinical records.

To work unsupervised reporting back and receiving guidance and teaching from the senior Occupational Therapist on a regular basis each week

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. Diploma or degree in occupational therapy
2. Registered with the Health Professions Council
3. Fieldwork placement in acute physical, community or local authority setting.

Desirable criteria

4. Membership of British Association of Occupational Therapists
5. Previous experience of work at a band 5 level.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

6. Good written and spoken communication skills.
7. Knowledge of common conditions, current treatment and equipment provision.
8. Knowledge of clinical governance
9. Ability to demonstrate competence in the understanding and application of core OT skills
10. Basic IT skills

Personal Characteristics

Essential criteria

11. Ability to work as part of a team.
12. Ability to prioritise workload and Good time management skills.
13. Ability to work under pressure and Flexibility
14. Commitment to continuing personal development

Other

Essential criteria

15. Car Driver - valid UK license
16. Able to participate in weekend and extended hours rotas
