Offer description

We are looking for a Learning Support Assistant to join our specialist setting in New Milton. This is for someone who understands that behaviour is communication. Who can look past the shouting, the silence, the refusal — and see the story underneath. Who knows that trauma changes the way a young person experiences the world, and that safety comes before learning. You will work with children and young people who have experienced significant adversity. They may test boundaries. They may push you away. They may struggle to regulate emotions, trust adults, or manage change. Your job? To stay steady. To respond, not react. To hold boundaries with kindness. To model calm when things feel anything but calm. You will: Support pupils with social, emotional and behavioural needs in and out of the classroom Use trauma-informed approaches to build trust and safety De-escalate challenging behaviour with confidence and consistency Work closely with teachers, therapists and families Celebrate the smallest wins - because here, they matter most You will need: Resilience and emotional intelligence A strong understanding of attachment and trauma-informed practice The ability to remain calm under pressure Clear, consistent boundaries A belief that every child deserves another chance tomorrow A great sense of humour, you won’t take yourself too seriously Experience in specialist education, alternative provision, SEMH settings, or care environments is essential. This is a full time position, working Monday - Friday, term time only. Please note we can not consider applications from those with part time availability. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date. Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided. For details of our privacy policy, please visit the Teaching Personnel website.
