Job Description & Person Specification >

As part of Torbay’s commitment to children and young people, an opportunity has arisen for a Youth Homelessness Prevention Worker.

This role has a central part to play in supporting the wider Family Help Service by delivering interventions and activities that contribute towards preventing young people experiencing homelessness and helping young people access suitable accommodation.

The role will involve working closely with young people and their families when homelessness is identified as a risk. The worker will also work with a number of key agencies to ensure a joined up approach is taken to meeting young people’s housing needs.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be a calm and systematic worker who is able to develop and maintain relationships with young people and professionals from partner agencies. You must be a good communicator and be able to work under pressure in order to ensure good outcomes for young people.

It is essential that any applicant has a knowledge of homelessness issues and housing issues along with an awareness of safeguarding procedures and the issues facing young people with complex needs. The Family Help Service is a broad service consisting of practitioners working across a number of disciplines and delivering various outcome focused interventions. The service works closely with partner agencies and is committed to community engagement and development by forming positive relationships with children, young people and their families.

This post meets the requirements for an Enhanced Criminal Record Check. This will show spent and unspent convictions and adult cautions which have not been filtered in line with legislation, plus any information held by local Police that is considered relevant to the role.
