Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant – Autism & SEMH
Location: Worthing
Salary: £90 - £110 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: September 2025
Contract: Full-time, Long-term

Are you experienced in supporting pupils with Autism and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Or are you keen to gain experience in a specialist setting focused on emotional wellbeing and behaviour support?

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Worthing. The school supports children and young people with a combination of Autism, anxiety-related behaviours, attachment needs, and other SEMH challenges.

About the Role:
This is a full-time role supporting pupils aged 7–16 in small classes or on a 1:1 basis. You’ll play a key role in helping pupils feel safe, understood, and ready to learn. Many of the pupils require structure, predictability, and consistent emotional support to thrive in the classroom.

Previous experience supporting SEMH or autistic pupils is desirable, but if you have the right attitude, resilience, and willingness to learn, training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

Provide 1:1 or small group support tailored to individual needs

Assist with emotional regulation, behaviour support, and wellbeing plans

Encourage engagement with learning through creative or structured tasks

Help implement strategies such as Zones of Regulation, visuals, or social stories

Promote independence, confidence, and positive social interaction

Support the wider team in maintaining a calm, consistent environment

Requirements:

Experience with Autism, SEMH, or behaviour support preferred

Resilient, patient, and calm under pressure

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Understanding of safeguarding and a willingness to complete relevant training

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

What We Offer:

Competitive daily rate of £90–£110

A dedicated education consultant for ongoing support

Opportunities for training and career development in SEN

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks; including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service, or completing an application for a new check.
