An opportunity has arisen for a Plant Machinery Apprentice to join the team in North Hykeham, Lincoln. Your main goal will be to learn to operate, maintain, and repair various types of heavy machinery, site accommodation and small tools used in construction and other industries. You will gain practical experience on-site, learning to handle equipment safely, perform routine maintenance and assist with repairs. In addition, you will also learn about health and safety regulations, environmental standards, and how to work effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
1. Safely operating a range of plant machinery, including excavators, bulldozers, and other construction vehicles, under supervision.
2. Assisting with routine maintenance, identifying and reporting defects, and learning basic repair procedures.
3. Adhering to strict health and safety regulations and site-specific procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
4. Assisting with loading, unloading, and moving materials on site.
5. Working effectively with supervisors and other team members, including ground workers and other plant operators.
6. Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors, including providing and receiving clear instructions.
7. Following environmental standards and procedures related to the operation of plant machinery.
8. Completing job cards for each repair
Possible Career Paths:
9. Plant Mechanic/Fitter: Focusing on the maintenance and repair of plant machinery.
10. Supervisor/Manager: Progressing to team leader, supervisor, or manager roles within plant operations.
Entry Requirements:
11. A strong interest in construction and engineering is highly advantageous.
12. Practical skills and a willingness to learn are highly valued.
13. A high attention to detail is essential
14. Driving licence and access to a vehicle highly desirable
Due to this being a highly specialised role, you will attend college on a block basis where you will board for a minimum of 1 week per month at Bircham Newton College in Norfolk.
