BAM FM is recruiting a Multi-skilled Engineer (Electrical Bias) to work alongside our site-based staff at University Hospital Southampton. You will perform planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive tasks across the site.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, on an alternating early/late shift.
Your mission
1. Carry out planned preventative maintenance and complete related paperwork and reports.
2. Possess extensive knowledge and experience in electrical fault finding.
3. Have experience in electrical/mechanical maintenance, testing, and fault finding on equipment such as plumbing, boiler plant, ventilation, pumps, generators, switchgear, cables, batteries, UPS & IPS systems, small power, and lighting.
4. Liaise with and supervise subcontractors regarding method statements, risk assessments, and safe work execution.
5. Read, understand, and diagnose electrical faults using as-installed drawings, schedules, specifications, and equipment documentation.
6. Identify and order spare parts needed for repairs, monitoring stock levels.
7. Perform installation and modifications of electrical systems in accordance with 1989 Electricity at Work regulations.
8. Ensure all tasks are completed within contractual timeframes.
9. Assist team members as required or directed.
10. Actively participate in reducing energy consumption on site.
11. Undertake LV AP duties if required.
Who are we looking for?
1. Minimum 4 years’ experience as an Electrician or Multi-skilled Engineer in a busy service environment after completing a full electrical apprenticeship.
2. City & Guilds 2382 18th Edition qualification and good knowledge of IEE Regulations.
3. Training or experience in General H&S Regulations, Risk Assessments, and Method Statements.
4. Self-motivated, reliable, able to identify concerns or defects independently.
5. Basic plumbing and mechanical skills are advantageous.
6. Good communication and organizational skills.
7. Ability to use initiative in daily duties.
8. Willing to work rotating shifts: Week 1, 08:00-16:30; Week 2, 13:30-22:00, with 0.5hr lunch each.
9. Part of the on-call roster, providing 24/7 support.
10. Support health and safety responsibilities within the hospital.
11. Willing to participate in on-call rotations (~1 week in 6).
12. Other reasonable duties as required.
