Inventya is leading on Innovate UK EdgeScaleup Programme. This role is an opportunity for a high calibre, experiencedbusiness leader to directly contribute to driving productivity growth in the UKby setting the standard for the implementation and delivery of support toScaleup Companies.
The role will identify and select a group ofsome of the most ambitious high growth potential innovative SMEs in England,Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and support them in accelerating their journey tosignificantly scale; helping them structure their companies to be able to seizeglobal opportunities and to become tomorrow's global success stories.
* This will be a “high end” service for the very best businesses selected from Innovate UKcompetition winners and wider Innovate UK ecosystem, including working with TheScaleup Institute, LEP (Local Enterprise Partnerships) and Growth Hub Scaleupprogrammes as well as programmes such as Elite. The role will be able to ensurethe businesses they are working with can make the most of both innovation andglobal opportunities.
Requirements
Person Specification and Experience:
The Scaleup Director will be of exceptionalhigh calibre and capable of being a combination of coach, mentor, criticalfriend, and champion to this exceedingly demanding group of client companies.This person will be:
* Well-connected andnetworked (ideally having international connectivity or access to it), with anextensive book of contacts.
* Have grown their ownbusiness and understand what it takes to succeed in global markets.
* Have experience ofraising funds. £5m+ equity or debt.
* Experience/understanding of floating on AIM, M&As.
* Accelerating entry innew markets.
* Working with andattracting high level NEDs (Non-Executive Directors).
* Understand what isrequired to help SMEs meet the requirements of large companies and their supplychains
* Have a global mindsetand experience in the legal and operational aspects of doing business abroad.
* A good understandingof group structures.
* An understanding ofthe value in implementing strategies across international markets.
* Awareness of thebenefit of leveraging multiple support schemes, such as grants, R&D taxcredits, debt and equity, financial guarantees, etc.
* Exceptionalnetworking, business development and sales skills
* Be self-motivated andresults driven.
* Have excellentorganisational and planning skills, plus a meticulous focus on quality
* Communication,facilitation, and presentation skills.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
* Identify and selectambitious innovation orientated SMEs with the potential and the ability toscale who will benefit from the Scaleup service.
* Assess and understandthe Scaleup companies’ specific needs and support them effectively and at apace set by them. Introducing services and international connectivity along distinctphases of the company as it grows, augmenting other support available.
* Provide services above and beyond what is available to the targetcompanies via connectivity with the Innovate UK family of services.
* Providingtailored support to the companies’ needs, connecting them with the people andopportunities that will really accelerate their growth beyond the UK andEurope, by being agile, flexible, and responsive.
* Work with Innovate UK,partner colleagues and other key stakeholders to Identify and map resources inthe scaleup ecosystem, to enable a more scale up friendly support environmentand a common acknowledgement among the various participants of how they areconnected. Establish local and national co-operation to support achievement ofthis
* Contribute to thedevelopment of a group of exceptionally well-connected Scaleup Advisers,capable of working across borders and disciplines and at the pace the targetcompanies’ demand.
* Support capacitybuilding of the Innovate UK/UKRI network through the utilisation of the ScaleupAdviser team to provide training and upskilling support to theinternationalisation and innovation adviser group.
* Deliver, facilitate,present, and attend at workshops and events. This includes attending nationaland international conferences and exhibitions and supporting companies withtrade missions.
* Report performanceagainst KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to the Programme Coordinator/s.

* Educated to degree level and/or equivalentprofessional qualification

* There will be the regular requirement fornational travel as well as some international travel.
