We currently have a fantastic opportunity for an Electrical Engineer to join a leading engineering company based in Portsmouth.
Introduction
The primary role of the Electrical Engineer will be to work on the design, development, and commissioning of control systems for production equipment and products. The role involves managing multiple project workflows, liaising with customers and suppliers, and organizing packages of work.
Responsibilities
Your duties will include working on motion control equipment and drives, safety systems, and monitoring systems—PLC and video-based. Most of this role will be desk-based, focusing on specification, design, and documentation, as well as liaising with control systems suppliers and contracting companies. Managing projects and workflows, coordinating and assisting on the shop floor, and taking designs through to delivery into the manufacturing process will also be required, so a hands-on approach is essential.
* Implementing new production lines and supporting existing systems.
* Approaching challenges and developing solutions independently before presenting them.
* Working on motion control equipment, drives, safety systems, and monitoring systems, including PLC and video-based systems.
* Liaising with other departments and suppliers during project execution.
* Understanding complex equipment requirements and translating them into workable designs.
* Understanding the relationship between electrical, mechanical, and control systems within complex machinery and production processes.
Ideal Experience
* An engineering degree or equivalent experience.
* 3+ years of experience with industrial control systems.
* A Competent Person (Low Voltage) qualification or similar.
* Experience in specifying, designing, and commissioning electrical control systems.
* Ability to focus on core deliverables amidst evolving requirements and project pace changes, managing multiple work streams and conflicting priorities.
Desirable Experience
* Experience with Siemens PLC and motion control systems.
* Experience in the specification, design, and implementation of precision machinery motion control systems.
* Knowledge of PLC programming and servo drive configuration, preferably Siemens systems.
* Basic IP networking knowledge.
* Ability or knowledge of another European language.
Salary: £45K - £60K
Hours: Day Shift, Monday to Friday
