The Role
We're working with a large multinational organisation currently scaling its internal fleet planning and scheduling capabilities across Europe. They are looking for a freelance Programmer/Analyst to support the development and testing of a new optimisation model designed to automate complex vehicle allocation processes.
This is a high-impact role for someone who enjoys bridging technical development with real-world operations and can take ownership of testing, analysing, and embedding scientific models into business tools.
The Team & Project
The central planning team is responsible for weekly fleet allocation across a large European logistics network — ensuring the right number of vehicles are assigned to delivery operations. The team is building automation tools and scientific models to eliminate manual processes and streamline end-to-end scheduling workflows.
You’ll work alongside a senior stakeholder based in London who’s leading the development of the automation roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, execute, and analyse User Acceptance Testing (UAT) scenarios to validate the optimisation model
* Work with real operational datasets to ensure the model delivers accurate outputs
* Assist in the integration of the model into internal scheduling and planning tools
* Collaborate with stakeholders, including a Senior Fleet Planning Manager, to support the automation roadmap
* Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support successful deployment
Essential Skills:
* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data manipulation, formulas, pivot tables)
* Ability to work with complex datasets; SQL experience is a strong plus
* Experience working on UAT testing for technical or data-led systems
* Comfortable interpreting and acting on ambiguous business and technical requirements
* Proven ability to work independently and deliver under minimal supervision
Nice to haves:
* Exposure to fleet/logistics/supply chain environments
* Clear communication skills and experience working closely with stakeholders
Why This Role?
* High visibility project with real-world operational impact
* Blend of technical challenge and business collaboration
* Opportunity to work on automation and data science in a logistics context
* Onsite engagement within a high-performing team in central London
Note: This is a PAYE-only contract role. Onsite presence (5 days PW) in the London office is required for onboarding and collaboration.
