Leeds Hospital | Cardiac | Permanent | Full Time
Up to £50,000 per annum and a £2,000 welcome bonus for Pacing accredited Cardiac Physiologists (HRUK/IBHRE/EHRA). 37.5 hours per week; part-time hours will be considered for this role (3 days a week).

As a Highly Specialist Cardiac Physiologist at our Leeds Hospital, you’ll hold a BSc in Clinical Physiology (or equivalent), registration with RCCP/AHCS, demonstrate BHRS/IBHRE Devices Accreditation, and have at least two years’ experience at a highly specialist level post-completion of devices accreditation.
The post holder will perform a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic tests and procedures. They will interpret results and deliver precise, clinically relevant reports to support medical decision-making while supporting other healthcare professionals and fostering clinical excellence across the team.
Responsibilities
* Perform a broad range of procedures in the cardiac cath lab as part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) including: diagnostic coronary angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention, right heart catheterisation, and PFO/ASD closures. Monitor ECG and pressure tracings throughout and promptly report abnormalities to the wider team.
* Support cardiac device implants by monitoring ECG and intracardiac signals to ensure accurate lead placement; promptly report abnormalities.
* Lead cardiac device follow-up clinics in line with BHRS guidelines, clinical governance standards, and local SOPs. Assess device function and battery status, make clinically appropriate programming changes to optimise performance and longevity, and maintain accurate records to support audit and governance.
* Ensure that appropriate Cardiac Device stock is available for implantation procedures.
* Deliver high-quality testing, interpretation, analysis, and reporting of non-invasive cardiology tests including ECGs, Ambulatory ECGs, Ambulatory BP, and Exercise Tolerance Tests, in accordance with national guidelines and local SOPs.
* Timely and accurate Ambulatory ECG analysis and reporting as a significant part of daily workload.
* Provide expert clinical leadership and specialist technical guidance in the implantation and follow-up of cardiac devices for the department and wider hospital.
* Act as a clinical role model, promoting evidence-based best practice to enhance care quality for outpatients, inpatients, and surgical patients.
* Demonstrate advanced communication skills to support patients and families and foster effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Maintain and advance clinical standards in CRM through ongoing training and CPD.
* Maintain clear communication with the Clinical HOD and monitor daily service delivery, recommending improvements and addressing clinical concerns promptly.
* Oversee stock control procedures, including standing orders, maintenance contracts, and capital equipment procurement, ensuring value and service quality.
* Contribute to the review and development of departmental and hospital-wide policies.
* Lead clinical audits, identify trends, and implement service improvements; participate in wider Nuffield audit programmes.
* Provide training, mentorship, and competency assessments for junior staff and other healthcare professionals.
* Uphold departmental quality systems, including medical device management and maintenance, and respond effectively to cardiology-specific MDAs/MHRAs.
* Contribute to the delivery of departmental workloads and deputise for the HOD during periods of absence.
