About Bhuku Ltd
Bhuku Ltd is an innovative education provider working in prisons across the UK. We design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and trauma-informed programmes that promote rehabilitation, employability, and safer prison environments. Our mission is to give learners the tools and confidence to succeed in custody and beyond release.
About the Programme – Skills Ninja: Building Community
You will deliver Bhuku's Skills Ninja: Building Community programme, a structured and outcomes-focused 16-day course (delivered over 4 weeks, Monday–Thursday) repeated monthly for six cohorts. The programme is designed for men at HMP Standford Hill and focuses on developing community values, life skills, teamwork, and responsibility.
Through interactive workshops, group discussions, and practical projects, learners will:
* Explore key values including respect, responsibility, inclusion, and teamwork.
* Practise conflict resolution, communication, and leadership skills.
* Plan and deliver a community project within the prison (e.g. awareness posters, communal improvements, or peer resources).
* Reflect on their learning through personal journals, action plans, and a final progression portfolio.
* Celebrate achievements in a final event with certificates and recognition from staff.
The programme directly supports purposeful activity, resettlement, and safer custody, while embedding a sustainable peer mentor framework to extend learning impact.
The Role
As the Community Values Tutor, you will:
* Deliver engaging workshops and group sessions to 8 learners per cohort.
* Provide 1:1 support for those with additional needs (e.g. ESOL or neurodiverse learners).
* Facilitate community projects, ensuring they are meaningful, inclusive, and achievable.
* Train and supervise peer mentors to support delivery and extend programme impact.
* Develop and distribute in-cell packs to maintain learning during restricted regimes.
* Track learner progress, maintain attendance and participation data, and produce written evaluations.
* Work collaboratively with the Learning & Skills Manager and prison staff to support learner allocation and progression.
* Promote safeguarding, equality, and diversity at all times.
This is a hands-on role, combining teaching, mentoring, and project facilitation, and requires someone confident in motivating learners from diverse backgrounds.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is:
* Experienced in delivering life skills, employability, or personal development programmes.
* Skilled in adapting teaching for learners with low literacy, ESOL, or SEND needs.
* Knowledgeable in group facilitation, mentoring, and project-based learning.
* Professional, resilient, and confident working in a prison environment.
* Committed to inclusive, trauma-informed practice and rehabilitation.
Experience of prison education or community teaching is desirable but not essential – full induction and training will be provided.
What We Offer
* £13 per hour, 6-month fixed-term contract.
* Comprehensive induction and CPD training (safeguarding in custody, EDI, trauma-informed teaching, prison compliance).
* Ongoing supervision and support from Bhuku's management team.
* The opportunity to make a real impact by helping learners develop life skills and community values that prepare them for release.
