We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary Hospital. The post involves working across both inpatient and community settings within our locality.
Our Stroke Therapy Team operates within a culture of a strong, supportive multidisciplinary team, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, and Assistant Practitioners. We promote an inter-disciplinary approach, working collaboratively to support patients in choosing, setting, and working towards meeting goals, to enable positive rehabilitation outcomes and facilitate timely discharge from hospital.
The team is committed to fostering an environment that promotes professional development and engagement with research opportunities, both in-house and in collaboration with local universities. We encourage regular clinical and managerial supervision to support personal and professional growth. An interdisciplinary approach is taken with clinical supervision facilitated for our Assistant Practitioners.
The successful candidate will manage a complex clinical caseload, providing specialised assessments and rehabilitation for patients following a stroke. They will use assessment skills to inform and manage appropriate discharge plans within inpatient and community settings.
The candidate should promote an interdisciplinary approach to goal setting while maintaining a strong clinical focus on occupational therapy. Collaboration with patients, families, and other MDT professionals is essential for discharge and planning purposes.
The role includes delegating work appropriately to Therapy Assistants and Assistant Practitioners, facilitating training for patients, carers, and MDT members, and supporting the delivery of specialised therapy services.
Continued engagement with Continuing Professional Development activities, in line with HCPC guidelines, is expected. The post holder should demonstrate a compassionate, inclusive, and respectful approach to delivering therapy services to all patients and their families.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, along with community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and RLI offer comprehensive hospital services, including Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units, and various specialist services. WGH provides general hospital services along with an Urgent Treatment Centre for non-life-threatening conditions.
All three hospitals provide outpatient services, diagnostics, therapies, day cases, and inpatient surgery. Community outreach services and diagnostics are also available across Morecambe Bay.
