Supplier Development Engineer
Working onsite at Peterlee (SR8) or Stafford (ST16).
Initial 12 month contract—likely to extend for the right person.
Peterlee: 36.5 hours a week. Stafford: 37 hours a week.
Hours: Monday to Thursday and on a Friday (specific details removed).
Pay: Up to £27.20 PAYE hourly rate plus holiday and pension contribution OR Umbrella hourly rates up to £36.90, depending on experience.
Our client is a worldwide manufacturer of construction and mining products. They are looking for a Supplier Development Engineer to assess supplier quality and ensure that all products are free from defects and follow manufacturing specifications and legal standards.
What will the Supplier Development Engineer do?
* A diverse SDE role from NPI to quality/capacity issues, mainly for the Castings category.
* Lead ongoing automation projects and audit projects, and capacity planning.
* Assess potential suppliers via on-site Quality, Cost, Logistics, Development, Management (QCLDM) audits.
* Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, continuously reviewing supplier capacity, and assuring production readiness through rigorous review of supplier PPAP submission.
* Provide technical expertise and leadership to the supply base.
* Collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities.
* Monitor suppliers' adherence to PCN (Process Change Notification).
* Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in design, quality, and manufacturing advancements.
* Ensure Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) is completed and approved before new parts are delivered.
* Some travel required: 25-50%, mainly within Europe.
What skills and experience does the Supplier Development Engineer need?
* Previous demonstrable experience working with suppliers.
* High technical knowledge in manufacturing & quality systems.
* Audit Capability; familiarity with quality tools and techniques—ideally within the Automotive industry (IATF16949 or ISO9001).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external partners.
* Knowledge of supplier audits, PPAP, APQP, Engineering specifications.
* Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers, and partners.
* PC literate; used to using MS Office suite.
* Power BI knowledge would be an advantage.
* Castings knowledge would be an advantage.
