Overview
We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic and inspiring Geography classroom practitioner with a real passion for the subject. The role is a temporary maternity cover with a view to a permanent appointment in time. Applications are invited from both newly qualified and experienced professionals. The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge and understanding of Geography and the skills to make a significant difference to students’ lives, in line with our single goal of “students first”.
As a subject teacher you will be required to complete the professional duties expected of a UK qualified Teacher in accordance with academy policies and procedures and your subject specialism. You should promote high standards through effective teaching and learning within your subject area, including the preparation, application and development of lesson resources in alignment with the curriculum as directed by your department head and senior leaders within the academy. You will be responsible for effective classroom management and coordinating class work with any classroom support staff present. You must evaluate lessons and incorporate student feedback to reflect and identify areas for development.
Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality Geography lessons that align with the KS3 and GCSE curricula and the department’s 3-year KS3 programme of study.
* Plan, prepare and develop lesson resources in line with the curriculum and department guidance.
* Manage classrooms effectively and coordinate with support staff where applicable.
* Evaluate lessons using student feedback to identify development needs and inform future planning.
* Collaborate with department colleagues and contribute to shared planning and resource development.
* Support with planning, marking and sometimes teaching across the department as part of a collaborative team.
* Contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing practices in line with academy policies.
Qualifications
* UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is required. If trained overseas, provide evidence that your qualification equates to UK QTS.
* Strong knowledge and understanding of Geography and the ability to inspire students.

Department context
The Ormesby Humanities Department is a welcoming team of 4 staff (2 historians and 2 geographers). Geography classrooms are resourced with interactive whiteboards and ample storage. The department prioritises wellbeing and collaborative planning, sharing resources and planning to support students and staff.
