Position
Connect2Luton is recruiting a Housing Officer on behalf of Luton Borough Council.
Responsibilities
* Conduct periodic check‑ins (e.g., 3‑ and 6‑month points) with clients who have moved into private rented sector accommodation.
* Reinforce client skills learned during initial support and encourage self‑management of tenancy while remaining accessible.
* Reduce long‑term dependence on services and prevent recurrence of homelessness.
* Check‑in with landlords or agents to review rent accounts, tenancy conduct, and client wellbeing.
* Identify early emerging risks of homelessness and take prompt action if arrears, anti‑social behaviour, or other vulnerabilities emerge or re‑emerge.
* Maintain engagement with tenants who remain at risk despite earlier intervention, revisiting and adjusting tenancy management steps as circumstances change.
* Address issues early, before notices, enforcement action, or abandonment occurs, providing mediation, budgeting refreshers, or referrals as required.
* Demonstrate reasonable and proactive steps to prevent homelessness and reduce repeat presentations for assistance.
* Work in Luton 4–5 days per week and visit clients in their homes.
Qualifications
* Experience with tenancy sustainment and client support.
* Knowledge and experience assisting clients with benefits and budgeting.
* Working knowledge of the Renter’s Rights Act 2026, Housing Act 1996, and related legislation.
* Full clean driving licence.
* DBS check.
* Ability to work on-site in Luton 4–5 days per week.
