Overview
Mental Health Practitioner (Band 5-6 Development Post) – Wakefield CAMHS. Based in Castleford with travel to different areas of the Wakefield district. The service operates 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. This role is to join a Crisis Team within CAMHS providing timely access to specialist services for children and young people in crisis or at immediate risk. All NHS Trust employees are encouraged to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect patients.
Responsibilities
* Manage your own caseload, providing high quality care appropriate to the young person’s needs, including risk assessment and management.
* Develop within the development competency framework, supported by senior colleagues and management.
* Develop and maintain good working relationships with key professionals across the district; demonstrate excellent communication and engagement skills.
* Contribute to service delivery within the CAMHS team and adhere to NHS guidance and statutory requirements.
* Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
* Work autonomously and as part of an MDT to provide timely access to specialist services for crisis presentations or significant risk.
* Provide outreach to engage hard-to-reach young people and support discharge from inpatient provision.
* Offer clinical supervision to colleagues and participate in supervision and training as required.
* Be willing to be part of the ReACH Team and development activities within CAMHS.
Band 5 – Responsibilities (summary)
* Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of skilled interventions for allocated clients within a defined caseload, in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
Band 6 – Responsibilities (summary)
* Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with a wide range of mental health needs; work autonomously and within MDT; provide consultation for other agencies; promote safeguarding.
Qualifications and Experience
* Essential – Band 5: Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist; Band 6: relevant professional qualification (nursing or allied profession) and Dip SW or equivalent; current UK professional registration.
* Desirable – mentorship or practice educator qualifications; postgraduate qualifications in mental health (e.g., CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling).
* Experience (Essential for Band 5): skills in assessing and managing mental health problems in children/young people; risk assessment; working in an integrated multi-disciplinary environment; experience in safeguarding and care planning; ability to deliver therapeutic interventions; experience in supervision/mentoring junior staff (Band 6).
* Demonstrated ability to work with multi-agency partners and undertake safeguarding responsibilities.

* Excellent verbal and written communication; IT skills; ability to use information systems (e.g., Rio).
* Ability to manage complex caseloads, work under pressure and within clinical governance frameworks.
