Role Overview
You will play a key part in regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. This is a fixed‑term role of up to 2 years.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training.
 * Develop strategy and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects as required.
 * Work with internal stakeholders (Defra, DESNZ, operations teams) and external partners (trade associations, industry players).
 * Respond to incidents, provide business continuity support during incidents.
 * Lead on the definition of standards for energy sectors and deliver new duties guidance.
Experience & Skills Required
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge of energy sector processes, including control measures for air emissions.
 * Experience working within and/or regulating relevant processes.
 * Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Cooperative teamwork to achieve common goals.
 * Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and actively encourage diversity considerations.
Competences
 * Legislative Knowledge – Apply statutory environmental and technical requirements.
 * Works in Teams – Collaborate with other senior advisors on reactive and planned work.
 * Builds and Sustains Relationships – Develop and maintain effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
Additional Information
Applications will be blind assessed using competency answers. Interviews will be held in person in Birmingham by the end of November. Some travel may be required. The role may hold a reserve list agreement for up to 6 months.
