Overview
We are looking for a proactive, IT literate individual to join us here at Southern Water as a Network Engineer in the Hampshire region.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct field investigations into sewerage‑related incidents and identify solutions.
* Act as a bridge between Operational Sewerage Teams and Asset Teams to ensure operational issues and incidents are understood and appropriate maintenance actions are taken.
Problem Solving
* Investigate sewer incidents and identify root causes.
* Recommend remedial works to prevent repeat incidents.
* Take ownership and escalations as required to ensure appropriate actions are taken.
Accountabilities
* Internal flooding & pollution incidents – key activity, 35% utilisation (attendance to incidents on request).
* Engage with customers during flooding incidents, managing expectations and advising on potential recourse.
* Collate with EA and pollution teams to resolve pollution incidents swiftly.
* Coordinate with EA to ensure correct categorisation of pollution incidents.
* Investigate sewer incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis, and recommend remedial works.
* Use CCTV footage, still images and SW records to support investigations.
* Identify hot‑spot areas and repeat blockages, proposing longer‑term solutions to reduce reactive work costs.
* Proactively prevent blockages, including customer education on nuisance issues.
* Regulatory reporting, MI & data quality verification – 20% utilisation (SIRF, PIRF and Red Line MGIS sketches).
* Governance – 10% utilisation, including site visits to record progress and resolve issues.
Desirable Requirements
* Fundamental knowledge of sewer systems.
* Functional knowledge of the Reactive Sewers end‑to‑end process.
* Functional knowledge of SIRF, PIRF & MGIS processes.
* Functional knowledge of CSMS & Ellipse.
* Understanding of NRSWA legislation.
* Competencies in reactive incidents: ensuring customers/public and EA confidence that incidents are handled efficiently and effectively.
