Job Summary

Here at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Stanford Hall, we are an inclusive and dedicated organisation working to provide excellent care to our entitled personnel!

We are looking to recruit a dynamic, organised and enthusiastic Band 8a Clinical Psychologist who will be working here at DMRC Stanford Hall, providing a service to military personnel.

This role is a fixed term appointment which runs until 10th July 2028, working 37.5hrs per week. The post holder is required to hold a United Kingdom (UK) driving licence due to the need to travel between locations within their defined service sector.


Location and Service

This post will be based in the Psychological Wellbeing Service (PWS) at the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Stanford Hall and comes within the scope of the Defence Clinical Psychology Service (DCPS). DMRC is a modern, purpose‑built Tri‑Service (Army, Navy and Royal Air Force) rehabilitation centre opened in 2018.


About DMRC

DMRC provides rehabilitation for military patients with complex needs who may have significant pathology or sustained musculoskeletal (MSK) or neurological injury. Patients are referred from Defence Primary Healthcare or secondary care and are provided with multidisciplinary management at tertiary care level.

Main duties

* Provide a specialised clinical psychology service to clients across all sectors of care; including highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy, and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non‑psychologist colleagues and other line management and carers.
* Utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the Psychological Wellbeing Service (PWS) and DMRC.
* Provide clinical and professional supervision to trainees undertaking Doctoral training.
* Undertake service development within own area of practice.
* Act as a specialist resource to the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC).


Responsibilities

* Providing specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
* Formulating and implementing plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients’ psychological/mental health problems.
* Being responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups where appropriate, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.
* Evaluating and making decisions about treatment options, considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group, accounting for the unique impact of the military environment on the individual's experience and prognostic implications for effective occupational functioning.
* Providing specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients’ formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Contract and Term

This is a Fixed‑term Appointment as a Band 8a Clinical Psychologist at Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Stanford Hall. The appointment runs until 10th July 2028. The role is fully paid under the Agenda for Change salary band, with a pro‑rated rate if part‑time.

Requests to work flexibly and/or part‑time will be considered, taking into account business needs.

All employees joining Ministry of Defence who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a 6‑month probation period unless otherwise advised.


Security and Health Requirements

* Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before appointment. The required security level is a security check.
* Applicants must provide evidence of immunity to Hepatitis B (serology levels). Vaccination alone is not evidence of immunity. Failure to provide sufficient evidence may result in withdrawal of the offer.


Visa and Sponsorship

This role does not qualify for a skilled worker visa under the points‑based system. The Ministry of Defence will not sponsor a visa. It is therefore not open to applicants who require sponsorship.
