Overview
The role is to undertake general laboratory reception duties, including sorting, labeling and racking of specimens and data entry of patient information onto the laboratory computer system. The post involves processing specimens in the busy Microbiology Department, from reception through to the main laboratory, after appropriate training.
Responsibilities
* Receive and process diagnostic specimens in the Microbiology laboratory.
* Sort, label and rack specimens; enter patient data onto the laboratory system.
* Carry out basic laboratory procedures as directed after training.
* Provide a helpful and professional service to visitors and telephone callers.
* Work as part of the Microbiology team across sample reception and the main laboratory.
* Demonstrate concentration and attention to detail in all tasks.
Working Pattern
Applicants should be methodical and flexible and able to work on a 7‑day rotation with colleagues. Weekend, early and late shifts are rostered, with late shifts extending up to 10pm; the laboratory operates 24/7.
