Overview
Apprentice Regulatory Compliance Officer - Trading Standards (Fixed term for 27 months). Location: Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Civic Centre. Hours: 37 per week. Directorate: Public Health, Protection and Wellbeing; Section: Public Protection. Grade: National Apprenticeship Minimum Wage. This is open to Internal and External applicants.
This apprenticeship offers an opportunity to start a career in trading standards, undertaking the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship. You will develop skills to assess compliance of businesses with consumer protection regulations and to advise the public on consumer issues. You will work under supervision to provide resident advice, inspect businesses, and conduct investigations for potential enforcement action.
You will be educated to Level 3 (e.g., Level 3 apprenticeship; A levels; BTEC; T level) with 5 GCSEs including English and Maths (or equivalent Functional Skills Level 2) and willing to undertake up to 16 months training including an end-point assessment to complete the qualification.
You should have some experience of customer service, be able to communicate clearly in person and in writing with a wide range of people, and have a confident approach with the ability to interpret basic legal information and work with accuracy and attention to detail. You should be self-motivated and a reliable team member.
Responsibilities
* Support the service in providing advice to residents, inspecting businesses, and conducting investigations for further enforcement action under supervision.
* Undertake the Level 4 Apprenticeship and complete the end-point assessment to qualify as a Regulatory Compliance Officer.
* Assist in protecting Stoke-on-Trent residents and supporting local business to thrive in a fair trading environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Level 3 education (or equivalent) plus 5 GCSEs including English and Maths; exam board accepted alternatives (e.g., A levels, BTEC, T level) acceptable.
* Willing to undertake up to 16 months of training including an end-point assessment.
* Some experience of customer service; strong communication skills; ability to interpret basic legal information; attention to detail.
* Self-motivated, reliable team member.
