About the role:
• To assist the Trading Standards Service in providing its Animal Health and Welfare functions in accordance with relevant objectives, policies and
procedures.
About you:
• Ideally, you will bring with you knowledge and experience of Animal Health and welfare legislation and enforcement. You will also be working towards, or willing to work towards qualification, competency and experience in Animal Health and Welfare.
• You will be organised, accurate and flexible with strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work on your own initiative.
• You may have an appropriate professional qualification or experience in a related field. You will be adaptable and organised with an eye for detail and capable of working under pressure.
• You must be willing to carry out duties at flexible times including occasional evenings/ weekends.
• Officers should ideally have previous experience of working in a local
authority environment and have knowledge of the complete range of Animal Health and welfare legislation and enforcement, and or experience of working in an agricultural environment, or working with farmed animals.
What you will do:
• Undertake routine inspections and respond to complaints and enquiries
relating to Animal Health and Welfare matters and support other officers in the team with this work and their development.
• Supervise and assist in the training and development of Animal Health
Apprentices and other work placement to ensure that necessary learning
outcomes are achieved
• Take a lead responsibility for a specified area of animal health legislation.
• Provide advice and assistance to agricultural businesses.
• Work closely with other Council departments, government agencies,
external partners and members of the public.
• Apply relevant legislation and guidance and undertake investigations or
enforcement as appropriate. Prepare case files for prosecution, attend
court/tribunerals/hearings as required.
