Job overview Applications are invited for a part‑time (0.5 WTE) consultant musculoskeletal radiologist with an interest in SPECT‑CT, based primarily at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital’s Stanmore site with occasional local‑outpatient coverage in Central London.
The successful candidate will provide the highest level of patient care in musculoskeletal imaging, including diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology, and will be expected to be active in research, presentation and publication.
Our department comprises 14 full‑time consultant radiologists. The post holder will work five fixed sessions per week (four direct clinical care and one supporting professional activity). A weekly evening ultrasound list is required.
Main duties of the job The post holder will:
Maintain the highest clinical standards in musculoskeletal radiology and undertake all reasonable clinical responsibilities relevant to this specialty.
Actively participate in departmental management, including attendance at MDT and monthly meetings, and present in the weekly bone and soft‑tissue sarcoma MDT.
Cover weekly general and local‑anaesthetic biopsy lists for bone and soft‑tissue lesions; perform complex spinal intervention, including biopsies and facet/nerve‑root injections.
Participate in the weekly Paediatric CRMO MDT and lead occasional MDTs such as the Myeloma MDT or Scoliosis‑spine deformity MDT.
Attend and manage interventional lists, including fluoroscopic joint injections, synovial biopsies and ultrasound‑guided injections; diagnostic ultrasound of soft‑tissue lesions.
Report on MSK SPECT‑CT, baby hip ultrasound for dysplasia and cryoablation where appropriate.

Key clinical duties include:
Reporting musculoskeletal SPECT‑CT and Dual‑Energy SPECT‑CT; contributing to the Bone Infection MDT.
Delivering general musculoskeletal radiology caseload, interventional and diagnostic ultrasound lists, joint injections, biopsies, CT‑guided interventional lists, and cross‑sectional imaging reporting.
Person specification Education, qualification and training
FRCR or overseas equivalent.
Entry on the GMC specialist register with CCT or equivalent (proposed CCT/CESR date within 3 months of interview).
Musculoskeletal radiology fellowship with evidence of bone and soft‑tissue sarcoma experience.
Quantitative demonstration of dedicated MSK (including spinal) interventional procedural experience.
Full GMC registration.
Paediatric CRMO MDT experience.
Experience in musculoskeletal SPECT‑CT reporting, cryoablation procedures, and baby hip ultrasound imaging.
Skills
Competent in all aspects of radiology skills relevant to the role.
Experience delivering training/teaching to nursing and medical staff.
Track record of MSK radiology publications in reputable journals.
Organisation and participation in educational courses/conferences.
Conflict‑management skills and ability to motivate colleagues.
Knowledge
Broad training across all modalities of clinical radiology, enabling full on‑call rota participation.
Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care.
