The successful candidate will be part of a 1 in 10 registrar on-call rota. They are expected to act as a competent member of the on-call team, demonstrating professional communication with colleagues and providing initial patient care. Responsibilities include managing common Plastic Surgery emergencies such as major burns (adult and paediatric) and performing operative management of basic hand trauma, including tendon and nerve repairs.
We can only accept applications from candidates with GMC registration and experience in the NHS at SHO (or equivalent) or higher grade in Plastic Surgery.
The successful candidate will primarily work with a consultant or team of consultants within a plastic surgery subspecialty but may be required to cover other specialties to ensure emergency service provision. All trainees rotate through specialty placements every four or six months.
The candidate will need to be familiar with patients under the care of the subspecialties and assist with the department's operations. Participation in teaching, audit, and research is expected where possible.
Training
The department offers numerous training opportunities in plastic surgery. These posts are aimed at surgeons in training, and we expect all successful candidates to demonstrate professional development during their tenure. However, these posts do not have SAC or college approval for training and will not count as time on a national training rotation in the UK. While NTN trainees are prioritized, training will be tailored to the candidate’s development needs towards achieving requirements for a National Training post or FRCSPlast/CESR. During their time in the department, candidates will be assigned a clinical and educational supervisor, and an appraisal will be provided within the Trust.
Every day, our teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) make a difference. We save lives, improve lives, and support the health and wellbeing of people in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and surrounding communities.
