People and Culture Manager

The People & Culture Manager plays a critical role in driving OddBalls’ growth by fostering a values-led, people-first culture. Reporting into the CEO, this role is responsible for leading strategic cultural initiatives while managing the day-to-day HR operations. Acting as a trusted advisor, they will ensure compliance with employment law, embed strong people practices, and support the company in attracting, retaining, and developing top talent.

Key Responsibilities:

People & Organisational Development

* Drive the execution of the HR strategy aligned with OddBalls’ cultural vision and business growth plans.
* Work closely with the CEO, CFO and Operations Director on workforce planning and organisational structure.
* Support and coach managers in leadership development, communication, and team management.
* Promote and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive workplace in collaboration with our Mental Health initiative.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives across the employee experience and organisational development.

Core HR Operations (Transactional HR)

* Oversee the full employee life cycle, including recruitment, onboarding, contracts, absence management, employee relations, and exit processes.
* Maintain and update the staff handbook, HR policies, and ensure full compliance with employment law and H&S regulations.
* Administer employee records, HR systems, and reporting processes efficiently.
* Conduct and manage probation reviews, appraisals, performance conversations, and disciplinary procedures when necessary.
* Deliver HR support for budgeting, headcount planning, and HR systems development.
* Provide quarterly HR reports (turnover, absence, engagement) to the Senior Leadership Team and Board.

Staff Engagement & Culture

* Embed company values through cultural initiatives, communication, and leadership alignment.
* Lead company-wide engagement strategies and initiatives to boost morale, communication, and collaboration.
* Coordinate team events and the Culture Committee, ensuring regular agenda-setting and staff involvement.
* Design and implement internal awards, recognition programs, and profile-raising opportunities that showcase OddBalls’ unique culture.
* Manage annual staff engagement surveys and translate findings into actionable insights.

Talent Acquisition & Development

* Manage end-to-end recruitment: job descriptions, advertising, screening, interviewing, and offers.
* Build employer branding campaigns in partnership with Marketing to promote OddBalls as a great place to work.
* Oversee and evolve onboarding and induction programmes for a seamless employee experience.
* Own and develop our graduate and internship programmes.
* Work with training providers to deliver a calendar of professional development that includes leadership and management training.
* Promote continuous learning and internal mobility across the team.

The successful candidates’ skills & qualifications

* A deep understanding of current people practices, change management and employment law and proven experience in applying this to a variety of situations in a growing.
* Equivalent experience to Chartered CIPD level.
* Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
* Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to enable the candidate to establish credibility and articulate a clear vision and influence.
* Able to manage information and interpret and present high-quality written, oral and numerical information.
* Confident to build strong working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

Salary and benefits

* £40k - £50k per annum (depending on experience)
* 24 Days annual leave plus bank holidays

Place of work

This role is based at our office on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate in North Shields.

Hybrid – 1 day per week from home

Working hours

Full time, 37.5 hours per week

* 8.30 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. Monday – Thursday
* 8.30 a.m. – 2.00 p.m. on Fridays
