Hardware Architect Cheadle (SK3 0XB) - Hybrid Thales Underwater Systems cover a broad portfolio of engineering challenges, working at the forefront of the exciting area of remotely operated unmanned vehicles for maritime/naval operations, the introduction into service of new sonar capabilities to surface and submarine platforms in the UK and around the world, and the support for all Thales in-service sonar systems. We're recruiting for a Hardware Architect to operate at a technical lead level within the creation and deployment of Hardware Solutions. The successful individual will be technically responsible for the Hardware Solution and act as a technical lead and coordinate Hardware Architecture delivery. Principal Relationships: You will work collaboratively with the Engineering Delivery Manager (EDM) and/or Hardware Engineering Manager (HwEM) to ensure the design lifecycle is completed in line with Thales Technical and Engineering process Key Responsibilities and Tasks: This role will have a solution based focus to ensure consistency with the Hardware Strategy including COTS selection and components reuse. In addition, you will review and approve V&V evidence & requirements allocated to the Hardware Solution Analyses customer needs/requirements and assesses solution architecture and technical choices Reviews the technical risks / opportunities and the related mitigation plans throughout the bid or project Ensures that hardware architecture stability is maintained across lifecycle phases from Bid to Delivery; Approve the technical, technological, and methodological choices taken in respect of the selected hardware architecture; Providing key knowledge on state-of-the-art hardware architecting, taking account of future developments Acts as a HW engineering source of knowledge for key HW engineering "cross-cutting" specialisms including, but not necessarily limited to, CE/UK CA marking, LV Directive, EMC and environmental Take a lead role in Engineering Reviews and approves the main HW Engineering deliverables for a project Monitors technological development of HW products in the commercial market place, which would be suitable for integration into a military platform. Skills, experience and qualifications required Qualifications/Relevant education in a Hardware or System Engineering related discipline e.g. BEng (Hons) Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Evidence of the ability to architecturally design a solution in line with requirements, including the ability to derive high level requirements Evidence of the ability to collaborate effectively with other engineers to develop a solution Detailed knowledge of the Engineering Development Lifecycle ensuring compliance with ISO9001 compliant engineering management system or similar within a safety critical environment Security Clearance Statement Due to the sensitive nature of much of the work, all applicants must be eligible for Security Clearance (SC level minimum), please check the government website before applying.
