Responsibilities and Key Duties
* Work as part of a team, on your own and under pressure.
* Liaise with various members of staff within the hospital.
* Provide and receive routine information regarding patients, ensuring tact, discretion and adherence to Trust and Caldicott guidelines.
* Deal with enquiries both in person and over the phone from patients, medical staff and the general public in a professional and cooperative manner.
* Act as the first point of contact for bereaved family and friends when appropriate, requiring discretion, tact and compassion.
* Maintain frequent concentration for daily duties, including unpredictable numbers of patients, and ensure accurate data entry to minimise clinical risk.
* Handle potential daily exposure to distressing information related to complex clinical conditions and treatments.
* Undergo job training and induction to understand routine work procedures and policies.
* Use a computerised Hospital Patient Administration System, keeping an up‑to‑date working knowledge of the Trust's main inpatient, A&E, outpatient and emergency systems.
* Develop a good understanding of medical terminology and other administrative systems such as a computerized scanner, Microsoft Office packages and the telephone system.
* Ensure compliance with mandatory training.
* Provide induction training for new starters on all reception tasks and responsibilities.
