Job Overview
The Estimating Engineer will utilise their industry experience and technical expertise to produce accurate and competitive estimates for client projects. This includes preparing cost and time estimates, ensuring project consistency, and maintaining client satisfaction throughout the tendering process. The role also involves managing existing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the company's estimating and tendering systems.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Prepare cost budgets and estimates for new contracts, ensuring alignment and consistency across all projects.
* Update and revise cost estimates in response to project scope or design changes.
* Develop and submit comprehensive, well‑structured proposals, adhering to client requirements and including all supporting documentation.
* Maintain detailed records of estimation documents, including site assessments, assumptions, and contract terms.
* Collaborate with the Tendering Manager and Design Team to ensure innovative, accurate, and cost‑effective project solutions.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying and engaging with potential new customers.
* Support the tendering process by providing technical and commercial insights to strengthen bids.
* Contribute to the development and improvement of estimating tools and internal systems.
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience in a fast‑paced engineering or construction environment.
* Excellent customer‑facing and communication skills, with a strong commercial focus.
* Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with estimation software (e.g., Simpro) is advantageous.
* Valid UK driving licence.
* Demonstrated experience in preparing cost estimates for 33kV–132kV projects.
* Understanding of UK DNO (G81) requirements for contestable works.
* Knowledge of Balance of Plant (BOP) works related to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is advantageous but not essential.
