Job Description
Job Summary
The Emergency Communication Officer is responsible for managing all communication services during critical incidents, including firefighting operations, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies. Responsible for recording events that are reported or called in. Requires a calm demeanor while providing fast and accurate responses to emergency and non-emergency situations. Maintains accurate call logs, activities, reports, requests, and other related information.
Job Responsibilities
1. Responds to requests for information, monitors several first responder radio frequencies to coordinate dispatching of services between two or more agencies.
2. Coordinates major incidents to ensure that proper notifications are made; assists in call handling if necessary and coordinates with Incident Command.
3. Ensures technical equipment is properly maintained, regularly serviced, and fully functional.
4. Completes reports and correspondence relating to dispatch activities in a timely manner.
5. In case of emergency or other necessity, transfers operations to and sets up the ECC Operations alternate center.
6. Participates in the Annual Training Plan.
7. Responds to notifications of a recall and reports to the Emergency Communication Center or other designated location for assignment.
8. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
* High School/GED required.
* IFSAC or ProBoard certifications including Fire Instructor I, Telecommunicator I/II, and HazMat Awareness.
* Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop effective working relationships.
* At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
* Effective communication skills in writing, telephone, and in person.
* Detail-oriented with experience managing multiple activities.
* Strong decision-making, interpersonal, conflict resolution skills, and supervisory abilities.
* Fluent in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
* Ability to work independently and prioritize systematically.
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions
* Physical requirements include lifting up to 35 lbs., team lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, extended standing, stretching, or bending.
* Ability to sit and concentrate for extended periods and respond immediately to emergency incidents.
* Willingness to work flexible hours and respond quickly to urgent requirements.
* Ability to live and work in harsh climatic and austere conditions with potential physical danger.
