Overview
Tommy is looking for a part time support worker to complete his team. Are you the one?
Contract Hours: 15h
Closing Date: 28/09/2025
Reference: SE/CL
Essential for this job: Experience of working with people who have a history of substance misuse, and some knowledge of Autism would be beneficial.
This is a big ask but we are an organisation that asks a lot of ourselves as we know that this is the only way to get results, real results that make a difference to the people we support, this is why we are rated as outstanding by the CQC. We are making a difference in Tommy's life, and we need someone who is also wanting to make a difference to someone else to join his team.
Tommy is a young man who suffers from poor mental health and this means he will sometimes take on different personas. He will refer to himself by other names, usually people he is interested in, for example rap musicians. Substance misuse features in his world and so you need to be someone who has an understanding of this, at times, when he is unwell, he will refer to himself as a drug baron. He can engage in some risky behaviours involving substance misuse, you must be someone resilient and someone who does not take things personally.
Tommy is clear about the type of people he is looking for, non-judgemental is key. You will need to be patient and offer support when he needs it but also be prepared to take a step back and sometimes have long periods of silence. If you are a chatterbox, then this is not the team for you. If you are up to date with your music and video games and enjoy a good film then you will work well in the team.
Most of all though whatever your interests and hobbies, you will need to find your own relationship with Tommy, for as much as he likes gangster rap, he also enjoys cooking and the finer things in life. We need people who can see the potential in Tommy, especially when he cannot see it himself. When Tommy is well, he is funny and polite and a guy who has a real caring side to him. He is mannerly and well-spoken and he is capable of having a great life, he just needs a bit of help from you to achieve it.
