Job Description The Senior Project Manager (SPM) – Major Projects will report to the Project Director and be accountable for the safe delivery of projects in line with contract requirements and United Infrastructure business procedures. The role is responsible for: Ensuring programme requirements are met while aligning delivery with company objectives and fulfilling client expectations. Managing projects to achieve targets in respect of safety, time, cost, quality and client satisfaction. To develop and maintain constructive and collaborative client, stakeholder and supply chain relationships. The Senior Project Manager will have line management responsibilities for project operational and technical personnel. They will work within the Project Leadership Team (PLT) comprising managerial, technical, SHEQ, project controls and commercial leads. Following a brief preconstruction phase, the role will be based at the Wormington Compressor Station site in Gloucestershire. The site is situated between the towns of Evesham and Cheltenham, on the north-west edge of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Travel to UI head office in Warrington, to the Kent design office in Woking and to the National Gas office at Warwick (or on occasion other NG offices as necessary) will also be required. Responsibilities of the position Building on the Role Description, the responsibilities of the SPM will include: Provide senior project management capabilities within the Project Leadership Team, working collaboratively with the Project Director, Technical Director, Commercial Manager, Engineering Manager, SHEQ Team and Planning Manager to ensure integrated project delivery. Ensure that on‑site operations, delivered through a combination of direct labour and subcontracted workforce, are safely and effectively coordinated to deliver the project scope in accordance with contract requirements and project‑specific documentation. Lead the safe delivery of this major gas infrastructure project in compliance with CDM Regulations, gas industry standards, statutory requirements, and company SHEQ policies. Take overall responsibility for the project delivery process, ensuring alignment with client objectives, contractual requirements, regulatory obligations, and business goals. In conjunction with the relevant PLT leads - manage the actions and reporting necessary to ensure target project KPI performance is achieved. Proactively resolve project delivery issues in collaboration with the project team, escalating material risks or unresolved matters promptly to the Project or Technical Director with clear information and recommendations. Own programme delivery, working closely with planning and engineering leads to manage interfaces, critical path activities, coordination of site activities, and commissioning constraints. Participate in the authoring, reviewing, checking and updating of all project documentation, including weekly and monthly reporting. Undertake reviews of internally and sub-contractor / supplier / consultant produced documentation to ensure contract compliance, fit for purpose and high-quality presentation. Lead and chair project meetings, workshops, pre-start, site briefings and standdowns at all levels to meet project requirements. Deputise for other members of Project Leadership Team as required. Visibly lead the safety, quality and environmental protection culture to ensure the project is delivered safely and to a high standard. Supporting the Commercial Manager with forecasting, change management, risk allowances, and value engineering to ensure full accountability for cost control and commercial performance. Act as the primary site-level interface with the client project team, compressor site operations team, statutory parties, landowners, and other key stakeholders, managing relationships and resolving strategic issues. Lead risk and opportunity management across the project, ensuring hazards associated with high‑pressure gas systems are identified, mitigated, and communicated through the leadership team. Oversee subcontractor and supply‑chain performance, ensuring capability, competence, and compliance with project specific safety and quality requirements. Ensure robust governance is applied, including reporting, assurance reviews, client approvals, and adherence to internal project controls. Promote a strong safety‑led culture across the project team, reinforcing behavioural safety, permit systems, and operational discipline in high‑risk environments. Manage change control and variation processes, ensuring contractual and regulatory implications are understood and addressed at PLT level. Support readiness for testing, commissioning, and entry into service, ensuring documentation, asset data, and operational interfaces meet client and regulatory standards. Capture and embed lessons learned, driving continuous improvement across the major projects portfolio.
